The Approach

Consultation

Each person has their own taste and sense of style that is reflected by their décor. Therefore, the design process begins with a consultation to explore these factors and ensure that the piece of furniture I design and build will "fit" into the space it is meant for. At this time all options from wood species to finishes will be discussed.

Craftsmanship

The materials are selected with careful consideration of the color of the wood and orientation of the grain pattern to ensure the completed piece will have a sense of visual harmony. The wooden parts are joined together using hand-fit joinery, which has been proven to be strong enough to last for generations. This joinery, when exposed, can also add beauty and visual interest to a piece. In the final stage of crafting, light but durable finishes are applied to preserve the natural beauty and color of the wood and to provide protection of the piece.

Pride in Ownership
There is a certain satisfaction in owning a piece of furniture that has been designed and crafted specifically for you. With custom furniture there is no need for compromise, you can get exactly what you want. Pieces crafted with this attention to quality will last for generations.

Craftsman's Ideology

My personal philosophy concerning quality and workmanship is echoed in the story of the origin of the word 'sincere'. In Italy during the Renaissance, some of the marble sculptors chose to use cheaper marble and fill in the pits and flaws with wax. Others with a higher level of integrity and pride for their craft refused to use anything but the finest marble, despite its cost. These craftsmen displayed signs in the windows of their bottegas bearing the words "sin cera" which means literally "without wax" to signify the use of flawless materials in their honest pieces of work. It is with honesty, pride, and quality of workmanship that I craft furniture that will last for generations to come.
